Port Penrhyn

Llanfairfechan to Bangor

Llanfairfechan to Bangor – what a beautiful walk – possibly the best we have done so far.

We parked in the train station car park at Llanfairfechan which is where we had finished our previous walk.  We waited for a few minutes and then our friends the Wilms arrived.  Today the whole family was there, Thomas, Bettina, Nik and Linus.

The Wales Coast Path follows the road by the train station down to the sea wall,  There are great views here to Puffin Island and Anglesey.  The path heads West and walks through nice grassy paths with fields or trees in the left ad the shore ion the right.  It was very low tide as we walked and the views across the sands were interesting and full of sea birds.   It is always a good idea to bring binoculars with you when walking the Wales Coast Path.

You cannot walk from Bangor to Llanfairfechan without leaving the coast as the land around Penrhyn Castle is private.  The Wales Coast Path takes you uphill towards Tal-y-bont and Llandygai and then you have a nice long sow walk downhill to the sea.

The walk down into Bangor follows the Cegin Valley down an ancient roadway though woodland and under railway bridges.  There are a few people around as this is a beautiful area for families to come out with their children or simply for anyone who wants a nice walk.  The path takes you along the River Cegin, Afon Cegin, down to Port Penrhyn.

Once we reached Bangor we had to find our way back to Llanfairfechan.  We thought we would head to the train station to see what trains were available.  We know that public transport is often limited in Sundays. Walking from Port Penrhyn towards the town centre we came across a bus stop and, surprise, surprise, there was a bus to Llanfairfechan due in 4 minutes!  we waited for the bus and enjoyed a very speedy ride back to Llanfairfechan.  The cost was about £ 4 per adult.

Walking the Wales Coast path from Llanfairfechan to Bangor takes about 4 hours plus lunch so you can do it comfortably if you allow yourselves 5 hours.
